I choose Black Pepper because it does not follow convention. Based in Nantes, close to the Atlantic, the yard has developed a highly individual sailing language: neo-retro in appearance, but thoroughly modern in construction, engineering and performance intent. The attraction is not simply the beauty of the line, although that is immediate. It is the combination of design restraint, carbon construction, thoughtful detailing and a seriousness under sail that gives the yachts their credibility.

Independent sea-trial reporting confirms what the eye already suggests: these are not decorative yachts dressed in performance language, but light, stiff and responsive boats with real pace, control and purpose.
