The Italia Yachts 9.98 is, in my view, one of the most convincing compact cruiser-racers for owners who want serious sailing performance without moving into an impractical pure race boat.

What I find particularly strong about the 9.98 is the clarity of its purpose. It is a yacht with real regatta credibility, developed around balance, responsiveness and efficient performance, yet it remains approachable enough for fast cruising and enjoyable private use. The Fuoriserie version speaks most directly to owners with active racing ambitions, while the Bellissima adds a more comfortable cruising character without compromising the model's essential technical DNA.

Independent testing has reinforced what the boat suggests on paper: this is not a yacht that relies only on Italian styling or marketing language. The 9.98 has proven itself on the racecourse, including at world-championship level, and its appeal lies in how the hull, deck layout, construction, and trim possibilities work together. For an experienced owner, that matters. It means the boat rewards skill, preparation and proper specification, but does not become unnecessarily complicated for the type of sailing many owners actually want to do.
